Ring size can be determined physically using a plastic, paper or a ring sizer made of metal (as an indicator) or by measuring the inner diameter of rings that already fits.
Ring sticks are instruments used to measure the inner dimensions of a ring. They generally made of delrin, plastic, wood or aluminium, or multiple materials. For precise measurement, digital ringsticks can be utilized.

International standard
ISO 19865:2016 defines standard ring sizes as their inner circumference measured in millimeters. ISO sizes are widely used in Austria and France, Germany (Belgium), France, Germany.
